During the production of oil and gas parts of installations may become radioactive. This radioactivity is caused by the accumulation of radionuclides from the Uranium and Thorium range. These radionuclides can be found in the earth’s crust and are transported to the surface of the earth when oil or gas are produced, together with the production stream. This phenomenon is called NORM (Naturally Occuring Radioactive Material). It looks like a radioactive ‘deposit’ in pipes and barrels or as a radioactive residue (sludge) in installation parts.
Companies and governments are becoming more alert as to the risks attached to working on installations or parts of installations where higher NORM concentrations may be present. This has led to stricter regulations and more need for advice, information and supervision.
Triple E can supply radiation expertise at various levels. In this respect local regulations and responsibilities stated in laws and permits are taken into account.
Our professionals advice our Clients in areas such as control measuring, permits, applications for permits and drawing up NORM work plans for both on-shore and off-shore sites. |
