Primary purpose of the job

Provides technical advice to improve and maintain the. reliability of rotating equipment used for oil and gas production. Develops reliability strategies for monitoring and improving the reliability of electrical, mechanical and instrument systems associated with rotating equipment. Keeps abreast of technological developments In the field of reliability engineering. Implements reliability programs to identify areas for improvement based on company and international standards. Implements and improves condition monitoring systems for rotating equipment and associated systems. Assists in the preparation of predictive and preventive maintenance programs. Analyzes equipment breakdowns and makes recommendations to improve reliability.

Principal Accountabilities

• Advises on mechanical and rotating equipment reliability issues in existing and proposed facilities and equipment the Dukhan Fields. Participates as a member of various special or ad hoc committees such as the Compressor Availability Matrix Team. HAZOP study groups, and provides technical advice on issues relating to reliability.
• Participates in the evaluation of Plant Change Requests involving installation or modification of rotating equipment and associated mechanical and instrument works. Accordingly, recommends appropriate solutions to maximize reliability and minimise life cycle costs. Liaises with the requesting or concerned parties, such as production and ‘ maintenance groups to gather and analyse data, and to make recommendations to the evaluation team.
• Advises on special problems affecting long-term reliability which may arise during construction and commissioning. Liaises with production and maintenance groups in the preparation of commissioning and start-up procedures covering rotating equipment.
• Exercises financial authority at the level established by Management for the position. Assists In budget compilation exercises, preparing cost estimates, advising en project phasing taking Into account long lead items and corporation procedures.
• Monitors equipment performance and checks appropriate performance data to ascertain breakdown causes. Presents regular review reports on performance of equipment together with appropriate suggestions to change operating procedures or Increase maintenance frequencies.
• Evaluates alarm and trip logic for vibration monitoring systems and recommends changes to improve plant—wide reliability.
• Keeps abreast of technological developments in the field of reliability engineering as it relates to the operation and maintenance of rotating equipment. Attends conferences and seminars, reviews technical journals / magazines and liaises with equipment manufacturers’ to determine new product developments. Develops and maintains a vibration monitoring program on major items of rotating machinery, Including Instruction of site personnel to take vibration readings, to analyze data and to diagnose the cause of any unacceptable condition.
• Assists In the preparation of predicative and preventive maintenance programmes for rotating equipment In the Dukhan Fields area. Uses performance and breakdown data and/or manufacturers recommended maintenance internals to determine frequency running hour requirements for actual work. Prepares detailed equipment checklists for routine maintenance. Follows up on actual maintenance work to keep abreast of operating conditions. Liaises with production and area maintenance personnel to coordinate any ‘test runs” prior to commencement end completion of repairs.
• Trouble shoots on problems, provides technical evaluation of root cause and recommends remedial action.
• Carries out other similar or related duties such as carrying out general technical audits on other related equipment as requested; writing technical reports: dealing with emergency situations in the plant, diagnosing faults and providing instructions to production personnel on the operating of equipment, reviewing relevant mechanical engineering standards and codes to ensure that all engineering work Is carried out in a safe, timely and cost effective manner.
• Assists in the establishment and updating of engineering standards for rotating equipment.
• Assists in the development of maintenance strategies and analyses planned maintenance tasks to determine extent they can be replaced by condition based maintenance procedures.
• Visits vendors and other oil industry users to review and evaluate recent development in the field. Visits periodically the consultants I contractors who may be carrying out design or fabrication arid Installation/repair work for (2P.
• Assists actively In the training of Qatar development engineers in accordance with QPs training and development programmes
• Acts as leave relief to other Section Heads within the Department or to Assistant Manager of Operations Engineering Systems. 
•  Performs as Senior Operations Engineering Duty Officer as per the Duty Roster.
• Serves as the Operation Engineering Department’s focal point on major projects undertaken by Onshore Engineering Department and reviews all the project specifications from maintenance and reliability viewpoint.
• Participate as Maintenance and Reliability (Dukhan) representative on various Project Task Forces and carries out project liaison including participation in commissioning teams for plants In Field Area.

• BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Must have satisfied the academic requirements for Professional Engineer status or equivalent plus completed relevant manufacturers’ courses in gas turbine control systems and vibration analysis.
• Minimum 18 years practical experience in design, construction and maintenance of mechanical equipment / facilities in the oil / petrochemical or associated industries including a minimum of 5 years of senior supervisory experience covering maintenance installation and trouble shooting on gas turbines, compressors and pumps, with specialist experience of rotating equipment and techniques used for condition monitoring of machinery.
• Completion of full time secondary education followed by a minimum of three years higher level study at recognised institution.
