Senior Rotating Equipement Engineer

Primary purpose of the Job

Responsible for providing a Specialist Technical Service in all aspects of Heavy duty Rotating Equipment Maintenance throughout the Dukhan field of operations.
Supervises the activities of assigned personnel in the implementation of predictive, preventive and breakdown repair maintenance of heavy duty major rotating and associated equipment.

Job Description

Participates in the planning and execution of Heavy duty Rotating Equipment shutdowns, reviews and discusses rotating equipment overhaul programs to establish Scope of work.
Ensures all work activities are undertaken in a safe, timely and cost effective manner through observation and implementation of Qatar Petroleum’s safety and fire procedures and regulations.
Trains Qatar nationals as developers.

Principal Accountabilities

• Directs/Supervises the activities of subordinates and participates in carrying out planned inspections/major overhauls of heavy duty gas turbines and gas compressors field wide and repair major breakdowns of major revenue earning machines in timely and effective manner. Ensures that all activities are carried out consistent with OP’s requirements/standards to fully utilize the plant’s performance.
  Coordinates instrument/electrical/mechanical craft trades to undertake work activities on heavy duty rotating equipment field wide such as gas turbines, gas compressors, and associated equipment Follows up on major overhauls to ensure that work is carried out according to agreed plans and that maintenance turnaround times are kept to a minimum.
• Carries out troubleshooting on all heavy duty rotating equipment Carry out remedial actions, and Implements Manufacturers Service Bulletins.
  Directs and participates by exception in carrying out preventive maintenance checks and tests on running heavy duty rotating equipment such as gas turbines, compressors, etc. Includes monitoring of temperatures, pressures, checking oil levels. Records the findings/observations and submits periodical reports to Head of Rotating Equipment
• Investigates and produces rotating equipment failure! risk analysis reports and specify plant, organize and improve the type of maintenance to be carried out (preventive/corrective) together with the frequency and the spare parts policy with the application of Reliability Centered Maintenance techniques.
• Responsible for advising technical /design support in the selection of types of major rotating equipment Support the executing maintainers by carrying out investigation and provide technical engineering advice on repetitive breakdowns of Major Rotating Equipment Technically review all new projects in view of providing technical/design inputs to the turbo-machinery being selected and procured to suit the application. Establish plant and strategy together with maintenance reliability.
• Carry out Vibration/Dynamic Balancing, Condition Monitoring, Performance and
• Reliability analysis, Root Cause Failure analysis of Critical Major Rotating Equipment
• Read, analyze and advise on spectrum plots and trends. Performance Evaluation of gas Turbines and Compressors. Lube and wear debris analysis.
• Implements predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance programs on a wide variety of heavy duty rotating and associated equipment to provide feedback and advance warning of potential problems or failure, on gas turbines, and gas compressors. Reviews and recommends requirements for replacement of spare parts, provides advice and decisions on actions to be taken on problems and discusses and determines work Priorities with other personnel concerned. Ensure that plant and equipment history records are maintained and evaluates economic considerations at all times in determining whether plant should be taken out of service or left to operate at below specification. Liaises with Production and other Maintenance personnel to co-ordinate inter-disciplinary work activities and to arrange for plant shutdowns.
• Participates in the planning for and execution of rotating equipment major inspections! overhauls. Includes reviewing and discussing shutdown or overhaul programs to establish QP’s manpower and extent of contractor assistance required. Implements work requirements, keeping supervisor informed of progress. Obtains instructions for plant/equipment start up and supervises commissioning, monitoring each stage to ensure satisfactory operating performance levels are achieved.
• Carries out other similar or related duties such as carrying out standby (on call) duties as Maintenance Duty officer on a rotational basis.
• Attends and approves FATs on new items of equipment or upgrades of existing plant systems or machinery.
• Prepares, monitors and manages Vendor support packages and call off contracts for heavy duty rotating equipment
• Prepares and manages material requisitions (OSR’s/SPIR’s/PR’s/SPFl Reservations) and PP’s to ensure continuous availability of heavy duty rotating equipment.
• Trains Qatari employees in their development career.

Education

• B. Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
• Good knowledge of English.

Experience

• Minimum 12 years of varied practical and supervisory experience in the installation, operation, maintenance, inspection and repair of a wide range of rotating and associated equipment in gas collection and distribution plants, pump stations, power station and central workshops within the petrochemical industry.
• Hands on experience on condition monitoring techniques are desirable.

Inspection & Corrosion, Fire & Safety and Security Departments to exchange information, work coordination, discuss problems and determine course of action. Frequent contact with contract personnel at own level before and during major shutdown and overhaul of plant

Decision Accountability

Has a broad and diverse responsibility and Is accountable for the cost effective major maintenance of field wide rotating equipment. Decision making is diverse in nature due to alternative changes in operational and maintenance practices and demands. In each case decides on the effective deployment of resources to minimize plant downtime and to maximize services and operational capabilities of equipment.
